Air barriers for pet food and animal feed production

Limit odour transfer. Keep passageways open.

In animal feed production, raw materials, products and transport equipment move between different areas. Open passageways in a pet food factory can also allow odour-laden, warm or cold air to reach adjacent zones. A correctly designed air barrier reduces this air exchange and supports separation while keeping goods moving.

Production keeps moving. So does the air.

From raw material reception and processing to packaging and storage, open doors connect areas with different requirements. Existing ventilation, temperature differences and passing traffic influence where air and odours travel.

Whether you operate an animal feed production line or a specialised pet food factory, AirCurtain24 assesses the entire transition. Together with the technical design team, we examine how a directed air stream can reduce unwanted exchange and fit into your daily operations. Applications include wet food, dry food and treats, as well as chilled and frozen raw materials.

  • Reduce odour transfer between areas
  • Separate different temperature zones
  • Keep routes open for people and transport equipment

Where an air barrier could help in your facility

Odour-intensive production areas

At passageways between processing and neighbouring halls, an air barrier can limit the transfer of odour-laden air. The design is coordinated with existing ventilation and pressure differences.

Transitions to packaging and logistics

Frequently used connections need to stay accessible for people and goods. An air barrier can support separation of the air between areas without obstructing the passage with an additional physical barrier.

Chilled and frozen raw materials

Between cold storage and warmer operating areas, directed airflow can reduce heat and moisture exchange. This supports separation of temperature zones and may reduce the load on refrigeration equipment.

Waste areas and open external doors

Passageways from waste-handling areas and frequently opened external doors may also be suitable. We assess whether an air barrier can limit odour transfer through the particular opening.

Separate air zones to suit your process

An air barrier creates a precisely directed air stream at the opening to counter unwanted air exchange. Positioning and configuration are matched to the passageway and local conditions. The fan unit can be positioned to suit the available installation space. We coordinate the design with arwus.

  • Dimensions and use of the passageway
  • Temperatures and air movement on both sides
  • Existing supply and exhaust air, and pressure differences
  • People, forklifts and transport routes
  • Cleaning requirements, installation space and maintenance access

Your questions about pet food manufacturing

Can an air barrier block all odours?

Complete odour containment cannot be guaranteed in every situation. The aim is to reduce the transfer of odour-laden air through a specific passageway. Achievable performance depends on pressure differences, airflow and how the opening is used.

Is the technology suitable for wet and dry pet food production?

Both processes may have suitable passageways. What matters is the situation at the particular opening. Dust, moisture and special cleaning requirements need an individual assessment.

Can an air barrier be retrofitted?

Retrofitting is possible in many situations. We check available space, mounting points, utilities and the existing ventilation concept.

Does an air barrier replace doors, airlocks or extraction?

The need for additional equipment depends on the operation. Required physical or hygienic separation is not automatically replaced. The air barrier is assessed as part of the overall concept.

Where do air and odours need to be separated in your facility?

Show us the passageway. A photo, its width and height and a brief description are enough for an initial assessment. We will agree the next steps and, where needed, a site visit with you.
